Poojya Dodappa Appa College of Engineering is one of the Premier Institutes of Karnataka State. Established in the year 1958, by the then President of HKE Society, Shri Mahadevappa Rampure, a great visionary and a statesman of this region. Starting with only three traditional departments like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical and with an intake of 120, the college has grown phenomenally. The Under-Graduate course in Electronics and communications Engineering was started in the year 1967, the first to be started in the entire Karnataka State. The College now has eleven under-graduate courses and eight post graduate courses and an intake of 670 students at the undergraduate level and 144 Students at the post graduate level. Alumni of this college are holding many senior positions in Government, industries, organizations in the country and abroad and have brought name, fame and laurels to this Institution.

The founder fathers of the Institution have provided the necessary and sufficient ingredients to this Institute for its sustained and multi splendored growth. The college has ventured into areas where many fear to tread, by opening many un-conventional disciplines like Cement & Ceramics (the only college to offer this in the entire state and one of the very colleges in the whole country), along with the most popular ones.

The college is one of the first and the finest Institutes to be started under the banner of the esteemed Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society with Direct Central Assistance. The H.K.E. Society now has around 40 educational Institutes under its umbrage, spread around the entire state. This College has been one of the most favorite Institutes for funding, by H.R.D. Govt. of India.
